Chapter 28

Chapter 28

Thena was smashing the chains on the dragonkind with all her might.

Clang

Byron considered using his lightning but instantly pushed that thought away. They weren't planning on eating crispy dragon any time soon.

Thena stopped hitting the chains with her sword. "Alright, time for the big guns!" She pulled out a yellow stone.

Byron looked in awe at the magnificent glowing stone, "what would happen if someone like me were to try and use a dragon stone?"

Thena gave Byron a contemplative look, "you know when torin uses agnir? It's probably like that." She raised the stone up.

Byron had just realized something important, "wait, agnir? Torin has ag-Ahhhh" he was suddenly blinded by a bright light.

Now in the place where thena once stood, was a golden dragon roughly the same size as the silver one. The silver one hissed at Thena's dragon form. Neither of them spoke, but then seemed to be completely unrhreatened by the silver dragon. She scooped up the chains into her mouth then crunched the metal into pieces.

A loud screeching noise from metal against metal echoed in the dungeon. Byron was still trying to catch up with the fact that torin had agnir. He wasn't even fully aware that thena had just transformed into a dragon then transformed back.

"alright terra, let's get you out of here" thena started pulling on the chain gently in hopes that the silver dragon would follow. Instead the dragon perked up and looked past Byron down the corridor.

Byron felt an odd chill go down his spine. He turned and looked down the hall.

There in the doorway, blocking the exit, was Declan. The king's most trusted knight, partially frozen. One eye was now missing entirely.

Surprisingly though he spoke, "where is my son?" Blood shone on his frozen sword.

Byron and Thena tensed up. The silver dragon cautiously approached Declan. She walked past Byron and thena. Thena tried to stop her, "he's dangerous, don't get any closer!" But the dragon kept moving.

Declan held out his blade, "where.... Is... Torin?" He was starting to slow his speech. The dragon huffed at him and made a strange sigh.

Thena tried to stop her one more time, "no he isn't your father anymore terra! Please you need to listen to me!" She tugged on the silver dragons tail.

The dragon growled at thena and turned its head. Thena let go. Then the dragon stood at the tip of declans blade. She stopped.

Declan let out one final warning, "enough... Back... Away... Now..." He swung his sword at the dragons neck.

Byron closed his eyes waiting for the sound of tearing flesh.

Clang

Clang? Byron looked again and the dragon stood tall. In the place where the sword should have cut was now a red scale glowing. There was a rune carved into it. Byron had never seen this rune before. Heat seemed to eminate from the scale as it glowed red then cooled down. "Thena, what is that?" He asked.

Thena started without blinking, "it seems terra had someone carve runes right into her scales... All of them..." She looked both horried and impressed at the same time. "That would've taken days or months even."

The silver dragonkind raised a claw to Declan who now only had half a sword. Her claws started to glow red as well. Runes that were carved into her scales glowed bright and hot. The dragon placed it's hand on Declan and suddenly the ice began to melt away.

"ah....uh..." Declan was melting quickly now. He began to cry as a tear fell down his face where his only remaining eye was. "Terra? My sweet girl!" He embraced the dragonkind. The silver dragon wrapped it's neck around Declan. He quickly ended the hug, "torin is in danger. Claire is planning to take agnir from him. We must move quickly."
