Chapter 18

Thena pulled out some rope, "I'll get his legs." She said a little too eagerly as she glanced at me.
Byron quickly submitted, "wait no, no! I'll come with you, ha Ha." He was clearly feeling embarrassed. He calmed down surprisingly fast though, "so why are you guys sneaking around? Everyone would be thrilled to see you. We've been wor-... Uh the crew was worried about you guys." He quickly caught himself and went back to his old cold self.
Thena got serious, "there's a traitor. It could even be you for all we know, the less people who know the better... That's also why you are coming with us. We can't risk you being the traitor and telling others about us. If we can help not being found out then that would be best." She pulled out a dagger and placed it on Byron's cheek. "Make any sound and you're dead, got it?"
Byron gave Thena a death glare, "yeah, it's not me. If there is a traitor then I want off the ship anyways and you guys are probably safer than this ship." The knife didn't seem to bother Byron. It's almost like he thrived on the threat of death. He felt more confident, brave, and talkative. The way he was acting now was almost completely out of character for him.
I couldn't take the intense energy I was feeling from them, "it's fine, it's more likely someone who is familiar with Thena enough to sabotage her. You can come with us Byron." I smiled warmly hoping to alleviate the tension.
Thena huffed, "fine. Just don't slow us down rookie." She bumped Byron's shoulder lightly with her own and walked down the corridor.
Byron didn't seem too bothered by Thena thankfully, "so what's the plan?" He walked in time with Thena but didn't try to stealth like she was.
I filled him in, "Arthur knows the most about the kingdom and was a good friend of the late king. We need his help to get my sister back." When I said it, I thought of terra being mistreated in the castle. My heart ached for her.
Byron looked confused, "your sister? Why did they take her?"
I tried to cover up the fact that terra might possibly be the true heir to the throne. "They must have thought she had magic too, because of me." It would be best at least for now to keep her true origins a secret.
Byron accepted that explanation easily, "it usually runs in the family"
That stung a bit.
We finally reached Arthur's quarters. Thena held up a hand to tell us to stop. We obeyed. Then she peered cautiously into the room. There at his desk was Arthur, writing notes in a journal. Thena backed off and started doing hand signals to us.
Gibberish honestly
As soon as Thena stopped, Byron nodded. Before I could even realize what had just happened, Thena and Byron jumped silently into the room and started restraining Arthur. Thena used her hand to cover Arthur's mouth and Byron held him in a headlock.
I panicked and grabbed a goblet of water and splashed it on Arthur who was clearly concerned for his life. Everyone stopped and looked at me.
Well I guess it helped him calm down.
