Chapter 05

Having grown up in a small village, I'd never experienced many things. Flying was one of them. Speeding up and ascending into the cloudy sky was a strange feeling. Arthur sat me down as we kept climbing higher and higher.
"When I get back outside I'm going to have to look how far up we are from the ground!"
The boat evened out and things began to stabilize. Arthur took me to the medic room, there were two people roughly my age in the room already. "These are your new temporary roommates until you recover. This is Byron..." He gestured to a black haired boy who wore a scowl. His features were quite sharp, but he looked like he was in a terrible mood. His fingers were black like they were frostbitten. He glanced at me then laid back down in his bed and closed his eyes. I could almost hear the disgust from him. "Hes a bit shy" Byron scoffed at Arthur's comment.
"And this is Claire! She was saved yesterday from the Drezir" Claire smiled brightly at me. She had white hair that was long and full. Her hair parted, letting the sides fall over her ears. There was enough volume to it that her hair looked fluffy and full instead of flat and straight. She didn't seem to have any visible injuries.
"Everyone, this is Torin. Our latest recruit. He has a bit of a nasty magic as you can see." Claire's eyes lit up, "oooooo fire magic???!! How does it feel?"
This seemed a bit insensitive seeing how my skin was basically burned to a crisp, "uhh... Painful" I replied. She got even more excited, "woooow" she looked like she wanted to ask me all sorts of things but Arthur kept moving along, "Claire has water magic. When we found her being chased by the Drezir she was almost drowning in her own powers" she looked a bit embarrassed but more in a devastated way. She looked like someone just told her that she was actually really bad at her job. Clearly she was a magic enthusiast.
"Byron has lightning. He is quite short with people and can even have a bit of a temper but if you leave him alone you should be fine." Arthur was quite observant. I looked at his fingers again, "did the Drezir do that to you?" I questioned Byron. He didn't open his eyes, "you should mind your own business..." He responded quietly, he sounded disappointed.
Arthur continued on, "anyways, Torin, you'll be able to recover from your burns fairly quickly, thankfully I have life magic. The ability to heal wounds, cure poisons, and similar things. Your recovery will be exceptionally quick. Let's treat you now." After sitting me in my own bed, he began to remove my clothing so he could attend to the burns all over my body. I was a bit embarrassed to be so underdressed next to a girl. She was staring at me in fascination the entire time too. Thankfully Arthur let me keep my underwear on.
"sorry for the intrusion of your personal space and decency but we don't have any way to divide you three from each other yet and you are in need of immediate attention."
"I guess I could suffer for the sake of my health, but couldn't you at least tell her to look the other way?" He laughed a light chuckle but kept working on my wounds. I stared at the ground because I didn't want to think about how Claire was examining my scars and burns.
Claire chimed in, "so who are your parents Torin?" That was an interesting question to ask after just meeting someone, "uh why? Do you travel to other villages a lot?"I questioned her motives. She smiled brightly, "I guess you could say that!" She seemed to be overjoyed to have someone to talk to, seeing how Byron was pretty unapproachable. "Oh, well my moms name is Jane, and my dad's was Declan."
Arthur stopped healing me suddenly, "Declan?" He looked puzzled, "like Declan, the first knight of the king?"
I gave a puzzled look.
