Chapter 33

Fran tried so hard to be happy. It's often easy for us to look at her and think that she is just a happy person, but really, she put in a lot of work to be that way.
Right now, seeing her feel comfortable enough to lower those walls with me was good too. She was still happy, but she could be happy without feeling the pressure to do so, though it was probably second nature at this point for her.
"You make it easy, Steven. To relax... You're the only one I can feel relaxed with."
My chest felt warm, my face bright red. Yeah, I like Fran a lot. "You make it easy for me too... To be happy. I guess that's why I had such a hard time while you were seeing Logan... Sorry I didn't try and fight for you more.... I'll be able to next time though, I'll fight for you too." She looked at me with a big grin, then leaned in, and I leaned in closer as well.
Our lips touched.
My heart was racing as we started to kiss, and we took our time to enjoy the moment. Her lips were soft, and it felt like heaven to be able to share this moment together.
"Oh, so you guys snuck away together up here then?"
We parted quickly, and Rebecca was standing on a large flower. Her arms were crossed, and she was clearly annoyed. "Whatever...." She came over and sat by us too. She put her face in her arms, only her eyes showing, and she stared out into the city.
Fran and I fidgeted a little in the awkward silence...
I broke the silence, "It's a nice night out. I'm glad I'm out here with both of you." I meant it too, "You guys are my best friends..." Rebecca laid her cheek on her hands and looked at Fran and me with a droopy face. She smiled with a small smile. Fran stretched her arms and laid on her back.
"I guess being friends is better than enemies," Fran said in a joking tone.
Rebecca smirked, "Just don't make any more mistakes... I'll be here waiting when you do."
What were they talking about? Oh well, it didn't matter. I was feeling better than I had in a long time. I closed my eyes and absorbed the good feelings until I fell asleep. We all slept peacefully on my roof that night.
"Steven... Wake up." It was still dark out, and a dark figure was kneeling next to me. But this time, it had a face. A young boy around our age looked me right in the eyes. He was a red-haired kid with freckles. He was shorter than me, and he was wearing a green shirt. He smiled brightly, like he was excited.
"Shad?"
