Chapter 11

I didn't really notice until today, but there is a red haired girl in our class. She is thin and slender with hair as red as a rose. She reminded me of Thorne, but I haven't got a good look at her yet. I'll approach after class. I don't remember her being in our class but maybe she was always here? 

 

I stared at her trying to decide if it was Thorne being a civilian when Fran nudged me. 

 

"hey you alright? What you looking at?" 

 

I shook my head a bit to get out of my deep thought. 

 

"oh nothing just kind of zoning out. Are you understanding the concept today?" 

 

She stared at me blankly... right it's math, she hates math. 

 

"Steven, I'm just hoping that you understand so you can help me later" 

 

She giggled a little. Fran was talented in other areas, math was a struggle for most people I think. It came naturally to me though. 

 

From the corner of my eye I saw a red haze like before with the shadow monsters. I turned to look but I saw the red haired girl where I thought the haze was but there was no haze. Maybe it was a reflection from the sun. I refocused on what the teacher was saying. 

 

One of the students started to feel sick and was looking pale, they didn't get a chance to leave the room before.... let's just say we all had to leave the room because of the smell.  

 

Me left the classroom and went outside for a little bit since the janitors were cleaning the mess. Fran and I were walking and talking next to each other when the red haired girl spotted me and started walking straight towards me. 

 

I was slightly startled at first, it seemed like she new me, or at least recognized me. 

 

"so it's you too I didn't realize we were in the same class." 

 

Well that pretty much confirmed that this was Thorne. 

 

"is Thorne your real name then?" 

 

I wasn't sure if she was using an alias. she looked at me with a questioning look. She didn't seem to know what I was talking about about she started again. 

 

"it's me Rebecca! Remember from elementary school? Who is Thorne?" 

 

Oh geeze, I guess I didn't get as good of a look as I thought I did. Fran cut in. 

 

"Whoa, Rebecca!? It's been so long where have you been?" 

 

She was excited to see Rebecca again and she hugged her. She definitely has changed a bit, she wasn't wearing glasses anymore and her hair was darker than before. She had a confidence about her that was so different. 

 

"It's good to see both of you too. Hey I was wondering if you guys wanted to go see a movie together some time?" 

 

That sounded fun, we hadn't seen each other in a long time now, plus it would be an opportunity to spend more time with Fran outside of school. 

 

"sure, let's go tomorrow since it's the weekend!" 

 

I pulled out my phone and put a reminder in my calendar 

 

"Excellent! We will see you there" 

 

Fran and I walked back to our desks together and finished the school day. Then we started walking home together. 

 

"Did her hair kind of remind you of Thorne? Is that why you asked her that?" 

 

Fran had a curved smile on her face like she knew I was embarrassed 

 

"well I didnt get a good look at Thorne, we were running on adrenaline that day, don't you think she looked a bit like thorne?" 

 

Fran kept smiling like she knew more than me 

 

"well did you see her aura?" 

 

I looked back at Fran, what did she mean? 

 

"Steven, you always talk about how I glow when I'm using my powers, but I never see the glow itself, then you talked about the red glow from the monsters the other day. I think you can see people's powers" 

 

It dawned on me that Everytime I saw Fran using her powers she would have a warm golden glow to her. Wow she really had been paying attention. I didn't realize at all. 

 

"But I didn't see a glow from Thorne or her plants... wouldn't I have seen some color from her?" 

 

Fran frowned slightly. 

 

"I guess my theory isn't fully developed yet"

She smiled at me with her bright smile.
